Description

Apothic Inferno Barrel Aged Red Blend is a distinctive wine that invites exploration with its bold character and remarkable depth. Hailing from the vineyards of California, this red blend is meticulously aged for 60 days in whiskey barrels, a process that imbues it with an intriguing complexity. At its core, the wine delivers a robust profile dominated by dark fruit flavors, where ripe blackberry and black cherry take center stage, enhanced by the subtle warmth of whiskey-infused oak. As the wine unfolds on the palate, notes of maple intertwine with whispers of spice, creating a layered tapestry that is both intense and inviting. The full-bodied nature of the blend is complemented by firm tannins, providing a structured backbone that balances its high alcohol content. The acidity is moderate, adding a refreshing contrast to the rich, velvety texture. Each sip concludes with a lingering finish, where the marriage of fruit, oak, and spice resonates beautifully. Best enjoyed at a slightly cooler room temperature, around 60-65°F, this wine benefits from a brief decanting period of 30 minutes to an hour, which helps to open up its intricate layers. Serve it in a large, wide-bowled glass to allow the aromas to fully develop and enhance your tasting experience. Apothic Inferno's bold profile pairs exceptionally well with hearty dishes; think grilled ribeye steak, roasted lamb, or a rich mushroom risotto, which can stand up to its assertive flavors. While this wine is crafted to be enjoyed in its youth, the unique barrel aging process lends it a complexity that could allow further development over a few years if stored properly. Whether you're savoring it now or setting a few bottles aside for future indulgence, Apothic Inferno offers a memorable experience for those who appreciate a robust and intriguing red wine.

Warmer than I expected, a little heat on the finish but still pretty smooth for 16 percent. Shared with my brother over burgers and sweet potato fries. Would grab another bottle when we want something bolder.

That whiskey barrel warmth is definitely there in Inferno. Next time you want something bold but not as hot, Apothic's regular red blend is a softer pour.
