Description

Conventual Tinto by ADEGA PORTALEGRE offers a compelling exploration of the Alentejo region's wine-making tradition. This robust red blend features a symphony of vibrant fruit flavors, underscored by a smooth, velvety texture. The wine's deep ruby hue hints at the complexity within, inviting experienced palates and newcomers alike to discover its depth. With an ABV of 14.0%, it presents a bold yet balanced profile, typical of the region's offerings. On the nose, expect a medley of dark berries, perhaps blackcurrant and plum, entwined with subtle earthy undertones reflective of its terroir. The palate reveals a full-bodied structure with moderate tannins, providing a pleasing grip that adds to its character. This wine's acidity is well-integrated, adding a refreshing lift without overshadowing the fruit-forward expression. While oak influence may not be dominant, it lends a whisper of spice and warmth to the wine's finish, which is both lingering and satisfying. Serving Conventual Tinto is best at a slightly cooler than room temperature, ideally around 16-18°C (60-64°F). While decanting isn't necessary, giving it a chance to breathe can enhance its expressive qualities. The perfect glassware would be a large-bowled red wine glass, which allows the wine to open up and reveal its aromatics fully. For food pairings, consider dishes that complement the wine's richness and depth. Grilled meats, particularly lamb or beef, are excellent companions, as are hearty stews or dishes infused with Mediterranean herbs. Its versatility also pairs well with semi-hard cheeses, creating a harmonious balance on the palate. Conventual Tinto is ready to be enjoyed upon purchase, yet it possesses the potential for further complexity with a few years of careful cellaring, offering an evolving experience for those who choose to wait.

Honestly thought it would be way heavier, but it went down so easy with grilled chicken. Smooth and just the right amount of fruit for me. Would grab this again for a weeknight dinner.

Glad it surprised you, in a good way! If you want another easy Portuguese red, check out the Paco do Conde Tinto too.
