Auchentoshan Three Wood

Auchentoshan Three Wood distinguishes itself as a Lowland single malt Scotch whisky with a maturation process that sets it apart. This whisky undergoes an intricate aging journey through three distinct cask types: American bourbon, Spanish Oloroso sherry, and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks. This trilogy of wood interaction gifts the whisky with a remarkable depth and complexity, offering an exploration of flavors that whisky enthusiasts cherish. The character of Auchentoshan Three Wood is rich and layered. It opens with an inviting aroma of toffee and dried dark fruits, underscored by a delicate whisper of sherry sweetness. The influence of the American bourbon casks introduces a smooth vanilla undertone and a subtle oakiness, which meld beautifully with the fruitier notes imparted by the Spanish sherry casks. Meanwhile, the Pedro Ximenez cask adds an intriguing depth with its distinctive hint of raisin and a touch of nuttiness that lingers on the palate. For those who prefer to savor whisky neat, Auchentoshan Three Wood reveals its full spectrum of flavors best in a Glencairn glass, which allows for the concentration of its complex aromas. However, a splash of water can open up the whisky further, softening the intensity and enhancing its sweeter notes. When served on the rocks, the gradual dilution highlights the interplay between the sweet and spicy elements, providing a refreshing experience. This whisky makes an excellent base for classic cocktails that highlight its intricate profile. A Manhattan or an Old Fashioned crafted with Auchentoshan Three Wood can elevate the cocktail experience, as the whisky's rich fruitiness and subtle spice harmonize with the bitters and vermouth. Its versatility also makes it an appealing choice for a creative twist on a Whiskey Sour, where its inherent sweetness can balance the tartness of lemon. Whether enjoyed in solitude or shared in company, Auchentoshan Three Wood offers a distinctive taste of the Lowlands’ craft.
