Description
Laphroaig 10 Year is a quintessentially bold Islay Scotch, renowned for its unmistakable peaty character and maritime lineage. With a 43% ABV, this single malt encapsulates the rugged beauty of its coastal origin. Expect a profound smokiness, derived from the island's indigenous peat, which imbues the whisky with its signature earthy aroma. As you delve deeper, the scent of seaweed wafts through, a tribute to the distillery's seaside location. The palate is a harmonious blend of flavors, where the smokiness is complemented by briny notes and a subtle sweetness reminiscent of the salt-laden Islay air. This Scotch is best appreciated neat or with a splash of water, which can open up its complex layers, revealing nuances that might otherwise remain subdued. For those who prefer a slightly cooler experience, serving it over a single large ice cube in a rocks glass can temper the intensity while maintaining its core character. It’s a versatile spirit that can hold its own in cocktails, though its robust profile makes it particularly well-suited for a classic Old Fashioned, where its peaty essence can shine through the bitters and sugar. For the fullest sensory experience, consider using a Glencairn glass, which enhances the whisky's aromatic bouquet, allowing you to savor its depth with every nosing. Pair Laphroaig 10 Year with robust foods; smoked meats or a rich blue cheese make excellent companions, highlighting the whisky's complexity without overshadowing its distinctive notes. Each sip is a journey to the windswept shores of Islay, a testament to the craftsmanship and tradition that define this remarkable Scotch.

Way more smoky than I remembered from last time. Not as harsh as people say, but takes a minute to warm up to it. Better with a splash of water for me.
