Murphy Goode Merlot

Murphy-Goode Merlot, a quintessential expression of California's viticultural prowess, offers a vivid glimpse into the allure of this beloved varietal. This red wine is celebrated for its inviting fruit-forward profile, typically characterized by ripe plum and black cherry notes. The body is medium to full, with tannins that are gentle yet present, contributing to a smooth mouthfeel. A hint of oak imparts a subtle vanilla undertone, enhancing the overall warmth and depth of the wine. With an ABV of 13.5%, this Merlot strikes a well-rounded balance between structure and drinkability. This Merlot is versatile in its food pairings, seamlessly complementing a variety of dishes. Its fruit-driven nature pairs beautifully with roasted poultry, particularly duck or turkey, while its moderate tannins are a nice match for leaner cuts of beef, such as a grilled flank steak. For vegetarian options, consider hearty mushroom-based dishes or a rich lentil stew to highlight the wine's earthy nuances. To fully appreciate the Murphy-Goode Merlot's character, serve it at a temperature between 60-65°F, which can be achieved by a brief stay in the refrigerator prior to opening. While not essential, a short decanting of 15-30 minutes can further accentuate its aromatic complexity. The ideal glassware for this wine is a standard red wine glass, which allows for proper aeration and the expression of its varied aromas. Though this Merlot is crafted for immediate enjoyment, its balanced acidity and tannin structure suggest it could benefit from a bit of aging. For those who prefer to let wines evolve, storing a few bottles away for two to three years could yield intriguing results. Whether enjoyed now or cellared for future occasions, Murphy-Goode Merlot stands out as a fine embodiment of California's winemaking tradition.
