Frei Brothers Merlot

Frei Brothers Merlot is a refined expression of Californian viticulture, offering a delightful journey through ripe, fruit-forward flavors complemented by understated oak nuances. This Merlot, with an ABV of 13.9%, captures the essence of California's fertile wine-growing regions, presenting a wine with a silky texture that promises to please both seasoned and emerging palates. Expect flavors that resonate with the warmth of the Californian sun, featuring dark plums and perhaps a hint of black cherry, all balanced by the subtle kiss of oak that adds complexity without overpowering its natural fruit character. This Merlot's smooth body is supported by balanced acidity, making it a versatile companion for a variety of dishes. It pairs particularly well with roasted meats, such as lamb or beef, and earthy mushroom risottos. For a vegetarian option, consider serving it alongside a rich eggplant parmesan. The wine's structure and fruit profile are best appreciated when served at a slightly cooler room temperature, around 60–65°F. Decanting is recommended, especially if you’re planning to enjoy it soon, as a brief period of aeration can further enhance its aromatic bouquet and flavors. For the most expressive experience, serve this Merlot in a large, round-bowled glass that allows the wine to breathe, concentrating its aromas for a full-bodied tasting. While Frei Brothers Merlot is delightful now, it holds promise to develop further complexity with short- to medium-term cellaring, offering the opportunity to evolve its character with a few years of patience. Whether you choose to enjoy it now or let it mature, this wine stands as a testament to the quality and diversity of California's wine-making prowess.
