Description

Introducing Glendalough Double Barrel Irish Whiskey, a distinctive creation from County Wicklow that stands out in the world of Irish whiskey with its innovative aging process. Crafted from a carefully selected mash bill of malted barley and corn, this whiskey undergoes an initial aging period of three years in ex-bourbon barrels. This foundational stage imparts rich vanilla and subtle oak nuances, typical of bourbon cask influences. The journey doesn't end there; the whiskey is then transferred to 500-liter oloroso sherry casks where it develops additional layers of complexity, bringing forth notes of dried fruit and a gentle, nutty sweetness that are hallmarks of sherry finishes. With an ABV of 42.0%, Glendalough Double Barrel manages to strike a harmonious balance between the warmth of higher proof and the smooth, approachable character you’d expect from an Irish whiskey. When served neat in a Glencairn glass, the whiskey’s bouquet of caramel, spice, and a hint of smoke is best appreciated, allowing you to explore the full spectrum of its aromas. Consider adding a splash of water to open up more subtle flavors, or serve it over ice to enhance its refreshing side. This whiskey’s robust yet smooth profile lends itself beautifully to classic cocktail recipes. Experience its depth in a well-crafted Old Fashioned, where the whiskey’s sweetness and spice play well with bitters and sugar, or try it in a Manhattan, where the sherry cask finish complements the vermouth's herbal notes. For those who appreciate a simpler touch, Glendalough Double Barrel is equally enjoyable mixed in a Highball, topped with a spritz of soda for a light, effervescent drink. Whether you're savoring each sip or mixing it into your favorite cocktail, Glendalough Double Barrel Irish Whiskey offers a taste of Ireland's rich distilling tradition with a modern twist.

Had this next to my usual Tullamore Dew. Glendalough is a little richer, especially on the finish. Not as smooth up front but pretty interesting with some ice.
