Barr Hill Tom Cat Gin

Tom Cat Gin is a distinctive offering from Vermont's Caledonia Spirits, melding the traditional allure of gin with the nuanced complexity of barrel aging. Crafted by taking the original Barr Hill Gin, this variant spends 4 to 6 months maturing in American oak barrels. The result is a gin that boasts the classic juniper-forward profile while introducing layers of warmth and subtle sweetness from the wood. The aging process imparts notes of vanilla and caramel, giving this spirit a unique position within the world of gin. On the palate, expect the familiar piney freshness of juniper to intertwine with the rich, toasty flavors imparted by the oak barrels. The 43% ABV provides a robust backbone that enhances these complex flavors without overwhelming them. The spirit's smooth texture and layered depth make it an excellent candidate for both sipping and mixing. When it comes to cocktails, Tom Cat Gin shines in a Negroni, where its warmth and depth stand up beautifully against the bitterness of Campari. Alternatively, it creates a sophisticated twist on the classic Martini, where its barrel-aged character adds complexity. For a refreshing serve with a twist, try it in a Gin & Tonic garnished with a sprig of fresh rosemary or a twist of orange peel to complement its oaky undertones. Serve Tom Cat Gin well-chilled, ideally in a highball or balloon glass with plenty of ice to open up its aromatic qualities. Whether mixed or neat, this gin offers a genuinely unique experience, reflecting the innovative spirit of its Vermont origins.
