Castle Key Restoration Rye 2022

Castle & Key’s Restoration Rye 2022 offers a compelling expression of what a Kentucky rye whiskey can be. With an impressive 50.5% ABV, this small-batch release embodies the bold character and intricate layers expected from a finely tuned rye. Its profile is a testament to the meticulous craftsmanship carried out by the distillery, where attention to detail and a reverence for tradition meet forward-thinking innovation. Upon nosing, one can anticipate the hallmark spiciness typical of rye, accompanied by inviting hints of oak and vanilla. These notes deepen on the palate, where the initial burst of rye spice gradually yields to subtler flavors of charred wood, warming cinnamon, and a whisper of caramel sweetness. The finish is satisfyingly smooth, leaving a lingering note of toasted cereal grains that invites contemplation. Restoration Rye 2022 is versatile in serving methods. Enjoy it neat to fully appreciate the complexity of its profile, where each sip unfurls a new layer of flavor. If you prefer, add a splash of water to mellow its intensity without overshadowing its core attributes. For those who favor chilled spirits, serving it on the rocks subtly enhances its smoother aspects as the ice gently tempers the alcohol's heat. When it comes to crafting cocktails, this rye's robust character shines in classics like the Old Fashioned and Manhattan, where its spice and depth can stand up beautifully to bitters and sweet vermouth. For something lighter, consider a Rye Highball, where its vibrant flavor can be showcased against a backdrop of effervescent soda and a twist of citrus. To best capture its aroma and flavor, a Glencairn glass is recommended for nosing, while a sturdy rocks glass suits sipping and mixing alike.
