Issac Bowman Port Finished Bourbon

Isaac Bowman Port Finished Bourbon offers an intriguing twist on traditional bourbon, crafted with care in Virginia. This spirit stands out due to its maturation in port wine barrels, which imbues it with a distinct layer of complexity, marrying the robust flavors of bourbon with the rich, fruity character of port. Bearing an ABV of 46.0%, it balances its strength with a surprising smoothness, making it a noteworthy addition to any bourbon collection. As you pour a dram of this bourbon into a Glencairn glass, anticipate an initial aroma that hints at stone fruits and honey, with a whisper of oak in the background. On the palate, this bourbon reveals its dual nature: the characteristic sweetness of corn is complemented by a nuanced spice, likely from the rye in its mash bill, all wrapped in the velvety warmth of port. These intertwined flavors unfold into a finish that is both lingering and inviting, leaving subtle traces of vanilla and dark berries. For those who prefer their whiskey neat, the full spectrum of flavors can be appreciated with each sip, but a few drops of water can also unlock deeper layers of its port-infused profile. If you enjoy whiskey on the rocks, this bourbon holds up well, maintaining its complexity as it slowly dilutes. When it comes to cocktails, Isaac Bowman’s unique finish shines in a Manhattan, where its port elements harmonize beautifully with sweet vermouth. It's also an excellent choice for an Old Fashioned, where its inherent sweetness complements the bitters perfectly. No matter how you choose to enjoy Isaac Bowman Port Finished Bourbon, the experience is sure to be a departure from the ordinary, inviting exploration and discovery with each glass.
