Van Steenberge Piraat

Piraat by Van Steenberge is a formidable representative of the Belgian beer tradition, hailing from the brewing heartland of East Flanders. With an impressive ABV of 10.5%, this Belgian-style strong ale is both a tribute to the past and a nod to modern brewing techniques. Expect a rich tapestry of flavors where malty sweetness is beautifully balanced by a gentle bitterness, marked by an IBU of 18. This living beer undergoes secondary fermentation, creating subtle, evolving flavors that invite exploration with each sip. To fully appreciate Piraat's complex character, consider serving it at a temperature between 45 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit. This range allows the intricate flavors to open up, offering a fuller sensory experience. The beer's golden hue, crowned with a dense, frothy head, is best showcased in a tulip glass, which enhances its aromatic profile and allows the carbonation to dance freely. Piraat pairs wonderfully with hearty dishes that can stand up to its robust profile. Think rich stews, roasted meats, or aged cheeses, where the beer’s maltiness and mild bitterness can enhance and complement the savory flavors. For those who enjoy culinary adventures, spicy Asian dishes or tangy barbecue also make for exciting companions, as the beer’s sweetness tames the heat while its bitterness refreshes the palate. This is not just a beverage but a voyage through brewing history, encapsulated in a bottle. Each glass of Piraat tells a story of craftsmanship and tradition, promising an authentic Belgian beer experience that is both timeless and refreshingly contemporary.
