Hanssens Oude Gueuze

Hanssens Oude Gueuze is a testament to the time-honored craft of Belgian lambic brewing, emerging from the heart of Beersel with an intricate tapestry of flavors that only natural fermentation can yield. This blend of young and old lambics offers a vibrant expression of sour beer, where tartness intertwines with a subtle funkiness, creating a captivating complexity that aficionados of traditional ales will appreciate. At 6.0% ABV, it strikes a harmonious balance between refreshing acidity and depth of character, making each sip both invigorating and intriguing. Styles like Oude Gueuze are known for their effervescent quality, often described as champagne-like in their sparkle and dryness. To best enjoy its nuanced profile, consider serving it slightly chilled, at around 45 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit, which allows the layered aromas and flavors to emerge fully. A tulip glass is ideal for this beer, as its shape captures the effervescence and directs the rich bouquet of aromas to the nose, enhancing the sensory experience. Pairing Hanssens Oude Gueuze with food can be a delightful adventure. Its bright acidity and complexity complement a variety of dishes, particularly those with rich, creamy textures or bold flavors. It pairs beautifully with charcuterie and aged cheeses, where its tartness can cut through the richness, and it also enhances the flavors of seafood and spicy Asian cuisines. Whether accompanying a meal or enjoyed on its own, this traditional gueuze offers a distinctive journey into the world of spontaneous fermentation, celebrating the artistry and heritage of Belgian brewing.
