Description
Hi Up There by The Rare Barrel is a captivating entry into the world of sour beers, originating from the innovative hub of Berkeley, California. With an ABV of 8.4%, this bold brew stands out for its unique approach to sour beer crafting, distinctively omitting bitterness with an IBU of 0. As you explore its profile, expect the characteristic tanginess and vibrant acidity that define sour beers, likely enhanced by the meticulous fermentation processes The Rare Barrel is known for. When serving Hi Up There, aim for a temperature range around 45-50°F to fully appreciate its nuanced flavors and aromas. Pouring it into a tulip glass will accentuate its aromatic complexity, allowing the beer's bouquet to bloom and enhance the overall tasting experience. This choice of glassware also helps to maintain the beer's effervescence, delivering a refreshing sip each time. For culinary pairings, consider dishes that can stand up to the beer's tart nature. Creamy cheeses like brie or camembert provide a delightful contrast, their richness balancing the beer's acidity. Alternatively, seafood dishes, particularly those with citrus-based sauces, can harmonize beautifully with the sour and fruity notes typical in this style. For those inclined towards something sweeter, a fruit tart or a tangy sorbet could mirror the beer's profile, creating a cohesive finale to a meal. Whether you're a seasoned sour beer enthusiast or new to the style, Hi Up There offers an engaging exploration of flavor. Its origins in California's vibrant craft beer scene are evident in every sip, showcasing The Rare Barrel's dedication to precision and creativity in beer making.

Picked up Hi Up There because my brother is big on sours, he loved it, bit too acidic for me after one glass. Fun pick to share though.
Response from CBC Liquors, Westford
Always fun sharing something different! If you want something milder for yourself next time, try Crooked Stave's Sour Rose.

Expected this to be way too funky for me but actually really refreshing. Tart without taking over your whole mouth. Would buy again.

I usually grab Cascade when I want a sour, but this was right up there with it. Maybe a touch more puckering and slightly boozier vibe, still solid pick for sour fans.
Response from CBC Liquors, Westford
Sounds like you're into bold sours! If you liked Rare Barrel alongside Cascade, you might dig our bottles from Almanac too.

First sip had a real kick to it. Pretty smooth after that, though the tartness hangs around. Shared with two friends and we all agreed it's got some bite, but in a good way.
Response from CBC Liquors, Westford
Glad you enjoyed the tart edge on Hi Up There. For something a little less sharp, check out their Shadows of Their Eyes next time.
