Theakston Old Peculier

Old Peculier by Theakston is a legendary brew hailing from the picturesque town of Masham in North Yorkshire. Steeped in history, this speciality beer epitomizes the traditional English ale with its rich and robust characteristics. With an ABV of 5.6%, Old Peculier offers a warming depth that suggests notes of dark fruit and subtle toffee, complemented by the expected smoothness of its malt profile. The modest IBU of 23 ensures a gentle bitterness that lingers just enough to balance the overall sweetness, making each sip a delightful experience for your palate. When considering the perfect environment to enjoy Old Peculier, serving it at a slightly cool temperature of around 50-55°F (10-13°C) will allow its complex flavors to fully develop. This ale is best appreciated in a traditional pint glass that accommodates its rich amber hue and creamy head, enhancing not only the appearance but also the aroma. As you pour, the subtle scents of dried fruit and molasses rise, inviting you to explore the depths of this storied brew. Pair Old Peculier with hearty fare to complement its robust profile. It stands exceptionally well alongside traditional English dishes such as beef stew or shepherd's pie, where the beer's maltiness mirrors the savory richness of the meat. For a more adventurous pairing, try it with matured cheddar cheese; the ale's sweetness provides a perfect counterpoint to the sharpness of the cheese. Whether savored by the fireside on a chilly evening or shared with friends over a rustic meal, Old Peculier offers a taste of heritage with every glass.
