Basil Hayden Malted Rye

Basil Hayden's Malted Rye presents a refreshing departure from the conventional rye whiskey experience, crafted with a distinctive blend that incorporates malted rye into its mash bill. This innovative approach creates a whiskey that is both smooth and subtly sweet, gently rounding out the typically assertive spice notes associated with rye. The result is a refined spirit that balances its complexity with an unexpected softness, ideal for those looking to explore a new dimension in their whiskey repertoire. Upon nosing, expect aromas that whisper hints of warm vanilla and toasted oak, underscored by the gentle presence of malted grains. The palate experience offers a harmonious blend where the sweetness of the malted rye complements the characteristic spice of traditional rye, crowned with delicate layers of caramel and a touch of peppery warmth. The finish is smooth, with a lingering sweetness that invites contemplation of its unique character. For those who appreciate savoring whiskey in its purest form, serving Basil Hayden's Malted Rye neat in a Glencairn glass will highlight its subtle nuances and allow its aromas to fully develop. If you prefer a more tempered experience, try it over a single large ice cube in a rocks glass to soften the spice and enhance its sweetness. Adding just a splash of water can also help open up its flavors, allowing for a more expansive tasting experience. When it comes to cocktails, Basil Hayden's Malted Rye shines in both classic and contemporary creations. Its balanced profile makes it an excellent choice for an Old Fashioned, where its sweet notes can enhance the cocktail’s signature bittersweet harmony. Similarly, it offers a unique twist on a Manhattan, blending seamlessly with sweet vermouth and bitters for a well-rounded and sophisticated drink.
