Description
Duchesse De Bourgogne, crafted by the esteemed Brouwerij Verhaeghe in Belgium, is a traditional Flemish red ale that captivates with its complexity and depth. This beer undergoes a distinctive maturation process, spending time in oak casks that impart a smooth, rich texture to its profile. The blend of passion fruit and chocolate notes leads to a long, dry, and slightly acidic finish, making each sip a unique experience. With an ABV of 6% and an IBU of 11, it balances subtle bitterness with a refreshing character, typical of the style. This ale is the result of a meticulous brewing process, where beer that has undergone primary and secondary fermentation is then aged in oak barrels for 18 months. The final product is a harmonious blend of a younger beer, aged for 8 months, and one that has matured for 18 months, resulting in an average age of 12 months before bottling. This method imparts a complexity and layered flavor that is both intriguing and satisfying, characteristic of the best Flemish red ales. For the best tasting experience, serve Duchesse De Bourgogne slightly chilled at around 45-50°F (7-10°C). Opt for a tulip glass, which will enhance its aroma and allow you to fully appreciate the interplay of flavors. This ale pairs exceptionally well with rich, savory dishes such as duck or roasted pork, where its acidity acts as a counterbalance to the fat, and the chocolate notes complement the caramelization of the meat. Alternatively, try it with a dessert like chocolate torte for a decadent treat that highlights the beer’s own chocolate undertones. In sum, Duchesse De Bourgogne is more than just a beer; it’s a testament to the art of Belgian brewing, offering an elegant dance of flavors and aromas that appeal to both seasoned beer enthusiasts and those new to the style.

Tracked this one down after a glass at Brick & Beam. Love the tart and sweet combo, but could go lighter on the vinegar bite. Still happy I found it again.
