Description
Chimay Rouge, or Chimay Première, stands as an exemplar of Belgian Trappist craftsmanship, hailing from the verdant region of Wallonia, Belgium. This renowned ale is distinguished by its striking coppery hue, which hints at the depth of flavors contained within. At 7.0% ABV and a modest 19 IBU, it melds a malty backbone with a symphony of caramel notes and dried fruit whispers, offering a complex yet approachable tasting experience. The subtle fruitiness on the nose is unmistakable, inviting your senses to explore its layers with every sip. For those seeking the perfect serving, Chimay Rouge reveals its best at a temperature of 50 to 54°F, where its intricate flavors can truly bloom. Pouring it into a tulip glass will accentuate its aroma, capturing the beer's essence while allowing the effervescence to dance freely. The wide body and narrow rim of the tulip glass are particularly effective in maintaining the head, enhancing the overall tasting experience. Pairing Chimay Rouge with food elevates both the beer and the culinary experience. Its malty sweetness and nuanced fruit characteristics complement a range of dishes, from hearty beef stews and roasted lamb to rich, creamy cheeses. The beer's caramel elements harmonize beautifully with the savory depth of charcuterie, making it a versatile choice for a sophisticated gathering or an intimate meal. Chimay Rouge is not just a beer; it's a testament to the rich brewing traditions of Belgium. Its balance of sweetness and subtle bitterness, combined with its aromatic complexity, makes it a standout selection for those looking to explore the authentic flavors of Trappist ales.

Solid trappist brew, bit sweet.

First Chimay I tried, was expecting something heavier but this is smooth and really easy to drink. Sunday dinner with roast chicken just worked. Would buy again for sure.

Glad you enjoyed it with the roast chicken. Next time try the Chimay Blue for something a little richer. - Dan
