Old Elk Blended Straight Bourbon

Old Elk Bourbon is a distinctive expression within the bourbon category, crafted with a unique blend that sets it apart. Hailing from the Old Elk Distillery in Fort Collins, Colorado, this bourbon is the creation of master distiller Greg Metze, known for his expertise in crafting complex spirits. One of the standout features of Old Elk Bourbon is its higher-than-usual proportion of malted barley, combined with traditional corn and rye. This unusual mash bill contributes to a rich and layered flavor profile that intrigues and delights. On the palate, Old Elk Bourbon reveals a smooth symphony of flavors. Expect notes of warm vanilla and caramel, interwoven with hints of toasted oak and a subtle spice that adds depth without overwhelming the senses. The malted barley brings a creamy texture and a nutty nuance, distinguishing it from more conventional bourbons. With an ABV of 44%, it strikes a harmonious balance, providing enough warmth to be enjoyed on a cold night while remaining approachable for those new to bourbon. When it comes to serving, Old Elk Bourbon shines both neat and with a splash of water, which opens up its bouquet and enhances its intricate flavors. For those who prefer a chilled experience, serving it on the rocks can add a refreshing touch without diluting its character. Its complex flavor profile makes it an excellent choice for classic cocktails such as the Old Fashioned, where its barley notes add an unexpected twist, or in a Manhattan, where its creamy undertones complement the vermouth and bitters. For glassware, a Glencairn is ideal for nosing and savoring its aromas, while a rocks glass works well for sipping and cocktails. Old Elk Bourbon invites exploration through its thoughtful blend and careful production process, offering a refined drinking experience that is both innovative and rooted in tradition. Its nuanced character makes it a versatile addition to any whiskey enthusiast's collection, suitable for a variety of occasions and preparations.
