Description
Pierre Ferrand Ambre represents a refined entry into the world of cognac from the esteemed Grande Champagne region. Unlike many others in its category, this expression eschews traditional classifications like VS or XO, opting instead for a distinct identity with an average age of 10 years. Crafted predominantly from ugni blanc grapes with a hint of colombard, Ambre embodies the rich terroir of its origin, offering a spirited exploration of the possibilities within the Grande Champagne appellation. Upon pouring, the Ambre unveils a captivating aroma that is both floral and fruity, with subtle undertones of honey and spice, promising a dynamic tasting experience. The palate is greeted with a harmonious blend of orchard fruits, particularly ripe pear and apricot, balanced by a gentle, lingering warmth of vanilla and a whisper of white pepper. Its smooth texture and nuanced complexity make it equally suitable for sipping neat in a snifter, where each layer can be savored slowly and deliberately. While Ambre shines on its own, its versatile profile also makes it an excellent choice for classic cocktails. It contributes a refined elegance to a Sidecar, balancing the tang of lemon with its rich, fruity notes. In a Brandy Alexander, its warmth and smooth finish meld beautifully with cream and chocolate, creating a dessert-like indulgence. For a twist on the traditional, try it in a Sazerac, where its subtle spice and fruit depth add a unique dimension to this sophisticated blend. To fully appreciate its character, serve Ambre at room temperature, allowing the layers of aroma and flavor to unfold with each sip. Whether you're exploring the nuances of cognac or crafting a memorable cocktail, Pierre Ferrand Ambre offers a distinctive journey through the heart of French brandy craftsmanship.

Compared to Hennessy VSOP, Ferrand Ambre is lighter and has a little more fruit going on. Not as deep but super easy to drink. Worked great in sidecars. Would go for this again over the bigger brands.
Response from CBC Liquors, Westford
Ambre is definitely a nice switch if you want something softer than Hennessy. Glad it worked out for your cocktails.
