Description
CALUMET's 18 Year Bourbon from the heart of Kentucky is an exquisite testament to the art of whiskey-making. Aged for 18 years, this bourbon stands out with its remarkable depth and nuanced character, showcasing the intricate interplay of time and craftsmanship. The lengthy aging process imparts a rich tapestry of flavors, typical of well-matured bourbons, with hints of charred oak leading the charge. Expect a symphony of vanilla and caramel sweetness that melds seamlessly with subtle notes of spice, likely reminiscent of cinnamon and nutmeg, all wrapped in a warm, inviting embrace. Serving this bourbon should be an experience of its own. Neat is the ideal choice for those who wish to explore its full complexity, allowing the flavors to dance unencumbered on the palate. For those who prefer a slightly tempered intensity, a splash of water can coax out hidden aromas and soften its robust profile. Alternatively, enjoying it on the rocks can provide a gradual release of flavors as the ice slowly melts, revealing new dimensions with each sip. When it comes to cocktails, CALUMET's 18 Year Bourbon is a fine candidate for classics that highlight its premium nature. An Old Fashioned crafted with this bourbon elevates the drink to new heights, as its rich notes harmonize beautifully with the bitters and sugar. It also makes a distinguished base for a Manhattan, where its aged character complements the vermouth, creating a cocktail that is both sophisticated and satisfying. For those who appreciate the nosing experience, a Glencairn glass is recommended to concentrate the bourbon's alluring aromas. Meanwhile, a sturdy rocks glass is perfect for sipping, whether neat or with ice. With CALUMET's 18 Year Bourbon, each sip is a chance to appreciate the dedication and patience that culminate in such a well-rounded and memorable whiskey.

Thought it might be too much oak, but turned out smoother than most 18s I've had.

Hard to beat Calumet 18 for that.

Shared with my brother-in-law after a long week. We both agreed it was richer than we expected, but definitely on the strong side for him.

Sounds like a solid night. If you want something a little lighter next time, there are some 12 and 15 years on the shelf worth checking out.
