Description
Introducing the Balcones Texas Single Malt, an audacious rendition of single malt whiskey that challenges the conventions of both bourbon and Scotch categories. Crafted in the heart of Texas, this whiskey stands out with an assertive 53% ABV, offering a robust spirit that makes its presence known from the first sip. Distilled from 100% malted barley, Balcones has drawn inspiration from traditional Scotch methods, yet adds a unique Texan flair with its innovative aging process. It begins with small batches matured in barrels of varying sizes, which are then harmoniously blended and further refined in a large barrel, a technique that imparts a complex and layered character. Expect a nose rife with the rich aroma of roasted malt, followed by hints of oak and a whisper of vanilla that gradually seeps through. On the palate, there's a delightful symphony of flavors: the initial sweetness gently gives way to warm spice and a touch of dried fruit, all wrapped in a subtle smokiness unique to the Texan terroir. The finish is satisfyingly long, leaving a lingering warmth that beckons another sip. Best savored neat or with a splash of water to fully reveal its intricate layers, the Balcones Texas Single Malt also shines in classic whiskey cocktails. Its bold profile brings depth to a Manhattan, adding a distinctive richness to the vermouth's sweetness and the bitters' spice. For those preferring a more straightforward approach, this single malt also makes for an exceptional Old Fashioned, where its complexity is beautifully highlighted by the simplicity of sugar and bitters. Serve in a Glencairn glass to fully appreciate its aromatic bouquet, or choose a rocks glass for a more casual experience. Whether you're exploring the nuances of its solo performance or mixing up a cocktail, this Texas Single Malt promises an adventure in every pour, embodying the spirit of innovation and tradition in equal measure.

Saw Texas single malt and was expecting something closer to a scotch but this one's way bolder, lots of oak and heat. Not as smooth as I hoped but definitely interesting. Sipped it with smoked ribs, held its own.
