Description

The Rvp by Great North is a distinctive dark beer, presenting itself with the robust character typical of a classic porter. Hailing from New Hampshire, this beer encapsulates the earthy richness and subtle complexities that make porters a beloved choice among dark beer enthusiasts. With an ABV of 6.5%, the Rvp is a well-balanced brew, offering a gentle warmth without overpowering the palate. Expect the traditional malt-forward flavors that define the porter style, with roasted coffee and chocolate notes taking center stage. These are complemented by a hint of caramel sweetness, which rounds out the flavor profile without tipping into cloying territory. While the beer's IBU is 0, which suggests no noticeable bitterness, it still retains a satisfying depth thanks to its rich malt backbone. The finish is smooth and lingering, leaving a pleasant aftertaste that will have you reaching for another sip. Serving the Rvp at a slightly cooler than room temperature, around 50-55°F, will enhance its complex flavors, allowing the malt character to shine. Consider pouring it into a nonic pint glass or a classic tulip glass; both will showcase the beer's rich color and capture its aromas effectively. While this porter can be enjoyed on its own, it truly comes into its own when paired with hearty dishes such as grilled meats, stews, or even a dark chocolate dessert, providing a complementary depth to rich flavors. Though Rvp is ready to enjoy now, allowing it a brief time to breathe after pouring can enhance its aromatic qualities. This is a drink-now bottle, made to be savored in the moment, capturing the essence of its New Hampshire roots with every pour.

RVP with BBQ pulled pork sliders. Pretty smooth, maybe a little more roasted than I go for but it worked great with the smoky meat. Would buy again for this kind of dinner.

Pulled pork sounds like a perfect call with RVP. Try it with ribs next time if you get the chance. - Marie
