Lamplighter Power Play

Power Play is a pale ale from Lamplighter, filed here under easy-drinking beer, which tells you where it sits in the style: a pale ale built for repeat pours rather than a heavy, resinous showpiece. No ABV or IBU figures are listed for this one, so expect what the category usually delivers, a moderate strength, a restrained bitterness and a clean finish, with hop character that leans fresh and citrusy or lightly floral over any harsh bite. Pale ales in this lane typically pair a soft biscuity or bready malt backbone with enough hop lift to keep the sweetness in check. That profile makes it flexible at the table. The hop snap and carbonation cut through fried food, so it suits fish and chips, chicken wings, and burgers with a bit of char. It also handles tacos, pizza, grilled sausages and sharp cheddar well, since a mid-bitterness pale ale won't overwhelm them the way a big IPA can. Lightly spiced dishes work too, as the malt cushions mild heat without clashing. Serve it cold but not frozen, around 4 to 7°C. Straight from the back of the fridge is fine, though letting it sit a couple of minutes brings out more of the hop aroma and malt sweetness. A standard pint glass or a shaker pint works for casual drinking. For a better read on the aromatics, a tulip or a stemmed pale ale glass concentrates the hop notes. Pour with a slight tilt, then straighten the glass to build a modest head.
