3 Floyds Permanant Funeral

Permanent Funeral is a specialty IPA from 3 Floyds, brewed in Indiana. The listing doesn't give an ABV, IBU figure or hop bill, so what follows is what to expect from the style and the brewery's hop-forward reputation, not a measured profile. Specialty IPA is a broad category that covers variations on the base style, such as added grains, fruit, unusual hops or a heavier malt build. Expect a noticeable hop presence in the aroma, with citrus, resin, pine or tropical fruit as the usual reference points, and a bitterness that finishes firm, not soft. Check the can or bottle for the ABV before you plan a session around it. Specialty and heavier IPAs often sit well above standard-strength beers, and a higher-strength one is better as a single glass or a shared bottle than as a round of several. Hop character fades with time, so drink it fresh and check any packaging date. Keep it in the fridge until you pour. Serve it cold but not ice-cold, around 45 to 50°F (7 to 10°C). Straight from a very cold fridge, the hop aromatics are muted. Ten minutes in the glass brings out more citrus and pine. A tulip or snifter concentrates the aroma on the way to your nose and suits a strong, aromatic IPA. A standard pint glass or a shaker pint also works, especially for a lower-strength version. For food, the bitterness and carbonation cut through richness. Smash burgers, sharp cheddar, spicy wings, carnitas tacos and Thai or Indian curries all hold up to this kind of beer. The hops also amplify heat, so go lighter on chile if you're sensitive to spice. For something sweeter, carrot cake and other spiced desserts are a common match with hoppy beers.
