Tomasello Peach Moscato

Tomasello's Peach Moscato is a sweet, fruit-forward Moscato-style wine from New Jersey, built around ripe peach character and a light, easy-drinking profile. It is classed as a fruit dessert wine, so expect the stone-fruit flavor to lead from the first sip. Wines in this style usually carry floral, orange-blossom-like aromatics from the Moscato base, with the peach adding juicy, soft-skinned fruit rather than a tart or sharp edge. Expect a light body, little to no tannin, and no oak influence. Acidity in this style is typically gentle, so the sweetness is the dominant impression, and the finish is generally short, clean, and fruity rather than long or complex. Because it is sweet, the best pairings are foods that either have some salt and spice to push back against the sugar or are themselves fruit-based. Spicy dishes such as Thai or Szechuan cooking, sharp or salty cheeses, prosciutto with melon, and fruit tarts or peach cobbler are all natural matches. It also works well on its own as an afternoon pour or alongside a simple fruit-and-cheese board. Pairing it with a dessert that is sweeter than the wine will make it taste thin, so choose lighter sweets or fresh fruit. Serve it well chilled, around 40 to 45°F, which keeps the sweetness fresh and the peach flavors bright instead of syrupy. Two to three hours in the refrigerator, or about 30 minutes in an ice bath, gets it there. There is no need to decant. A standard white wine glass or a smaller tulip-shaped glass works well, as the narrower rim helps gather the fruity aromas. A Moscato like this can also be poured over ice or topped with sparkling water or lemon-lime soda for a lighter, spritzer-style drink. This is a drink-now bottle. Light, fruit-driven sweet wines like this are made for freshness and do not improve with cellaring, so enjoy it within a year or two of purchase and keep it in a cool, dark place until then. Once opened, recork or reseal it and refrigerate. It will hold its fruit character for a few days.
