Switchback NA Ale

Switchback's NA Ale is a non-alcoholic take on the pale ale style. The listing doesn't give an ABV, IBU or hop bill, so what follows describes what non-alcoholic ales of this type usually offer, not measured numbers for this bottle. Expect a malt-led body with a light bready or biscuity sweetness. Hop character typically sits in the background as gentle citrus, herbal or earthy notes with a moderate, clean bitterness. Without alcohol, these beers tend to feel lighter on the palate than their full-strength counterparts. The finish is usually crisp and dry rather than sweet, which is the main thing to look for when you pour one. Serve it well chilled, around 38 to 45°F (3 to 7°C). Cold temperatures keep the carbonation lively and stop the malt from tasting syrupy, a common issue as non-alcoholic ales warm up. A standard pint glass or a tulip-style pale ale glass works well. Pour at an angle and finish straight down the middle to build a modest head, which helps release whatever hop aroma is present. At the table, an ale in this style pairs naturally with food that has some salt, char or fat for the carbonation to cut through. Good matches include grilled chicken, burgers, fish tacos, pizza, roasted vegetables, and sharp cheddar or other firm, aged cheeses. Its moderate bitterness also holds up against mildly spicy dishes without the heat overwhelming it.
