Description
Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur is a cherry liqueur from Veneto, Italy, at 32% ABV. The Luxardo family makes it from sour Marasca cherries grown in their own orchards. The cherries are steeped for two years, distilled, then aged in Finnish ash wood vats. The result balances sweetness with the tartness of the fruit, and it is a standard cocktail ingredient in the Aviation and the Last Word. Was expecting it to be a syrupy dessert thing but it's drier and more herbal than I thought. Used it for cocktails only, probably wouldn't sip neat.
Over ice in a Last Word, absolute classic. Cherry but not too sweet, herbal edge that makes the drink.
