Description
Grapefruit Sculpin by Ballast Point is a refreshing take on the American IPA, hailing from the sunny shores of California. With an ABV of 7.0% and an IBU of 70, this beer promises a bold yet balanced experience. The addition of grapefruit infuses the brew with a lively citrus character, enhancing its natural hop-driven notes of pine and floral undertones. The result is a vibrant and invigorating profile that stands out among fruit-infused IPAs, offering a refreshing twist that both hop enthusiasts and fruit beer lovers will appreciate. When it comes to serving Grapefruit Sculpin, aim for a temperature of around 45-50°F to fully appreciate its complexity. This beer shines in a tulip glass, which will help concentrate its aromatic grapefruit notes while allowing the rich golden body to sparkle. The initial aroma is a bright burst of citrus zest that gives way to subtle hints of caramel malt, providing a pleasantly bitter yet smooth finish that lingers. Pair this IPA with dishes that can complement and contrast its vibrant flavors. Grilled seafood, such as shrimp or salmon, will harmonize beautifully with the citrus elements, while a spicy Thai curry can provide an exciting contrast that highlights the beer's hoppy bitterness. For a cheese pairing, consider a sharp cheddar or a creamy blue cheese, which will play off the beer's fruity and bitter notes in a delightful dance of flavors. Grapefruit Sculpin presents a dynamic and refreshing drinking experience, capturing the essence of a sunny California day with each sip. Its bold grapefruit infusion elevates the traditional IPA to new heights, making it a distinctive choice for those seeking a unique twist on a classic style.

Had Grapefruit Sculpin with shrimp tacos. Citrus played off the salsa, but wish it was a bit less sweet. Still solid IPA for dinner.

That combo sounds spot on. If you want something drier next time, you might like Dogfish Head 60 Minute too.
