Description
G4 Clasico Blanco is an unaged tequila bottled at 40% ABV, produced in Los Altos, the Jalisco highlands, where the red clay soils tend to give blue Weber agave a rounder, fruitier, more floral character than the lowland valley. The reference notes describe it as a clean, agave-forward tequila with citrus and light pepper notes. Expect a bright, cooked-agave sweetness at the front, a lift of citrus peel in the middle, and a dry, mildly peppery finish. With no barrel influence, the flavor you taste comes from the agave and the distillation alone. As a Blanco (also sold as Silver), it sits at the unaged end of the range. Reposado spends a few months to under a year in oak, Añejo one to three years, and Extra Añejo three years or more. Those barrels add vanilla, caramel and baking spice while softening the agave. A Blanco skips all of that, so the plant stays in front and the pepper and citrus remain sharp. That makes it the most useful style for cocktails, where the agave needs to survive lime, soda or grapefruit. It also makes it a straightforward way to judge a producer's raw work. Because the profile is clean and bright rather than heavy, this bottle suits both approaches. Neat, pour about an ounce into a caballito or a small tulip-shaped glass, which concentrates the aromatics better than a wide tumbler. Serve it at cool room temperature, or lightly chilled if you prefer a tighter, drier feel. Chilling mutes some of the sweeter agave notes, so skip the freezer. Over a single large cube in a rocks glass, it opens up slowly and stays crisp. Skip the salt and lime shot routine here, since it would cover the citrus and pepper you want to taste. In cocktails, a Margarita is the obvious match: 2 oz tequila, 1 oz fresh lime juice and about ¾ oz orange liqueur or agave syrup, shaken hard and served in a rocks glass over fresh ice with a salted half rim. The Paloma works well too, built over ice in a highball glass with fresh grapefruit juice, a pinch of salt and a splash of grapefruit soda. For a Ranch Water, pour 2 oz over ice with the juice of half a lime and top with sparkling mineral water. The tequila's citrus and pepper show clearly in that very dry drink. For food, think ceviche, grilled shrimp, fish tacos and carnitas, where its brightness cuts through fat and acid.
