Description

Bunnahabhain 12 Year Scotch offers a distinctive expression of Islay's renowned whisky craftsmanship. Known affectionately as "Bunny," this northernmost distillery on the island produces a notably less peated Scotch, setting it apart from its more robust Islay counterparts. At just 3 ppm of peat, compared to the 55 ppm typical of Ardbeg, this whiskey delivers a gentle whisper of smoke rather than an overwhelming presence. This delightful subtlety allows the underlying flavors to shine, creating a harmonious blend of character and complexity. Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, Bunnahabhain 12 Year reveals a rich tapestry of tasting notes. Expect a delicate balance of sweet vanilla and toasted oak, underscored by the dried fruit and nutty nuances imparted by the sherry casks. The whiskey greets the palate with a smooth, creamy texture, offering layers of spice and a faint touch of maritime salt that speaks to its coastal origins. With an ABV of 46.3%, this Scotch is both robust enough to stand on its own and versatile enough to shine in various settings. For those who appreciate their Scotch neat, the Bunnahabhain 12 Year is best served in a Glencairn glass, allowing the aromas to concentrate and enhance the nosing experience. However, a splash of water can open up additional subtleties, revealing more of its intricate flavor profile. If you prefer your whiskey on the rocks, a large ice cube in a rocks glass can gently mellow the spirit without diluting its character too quickly. While this Scotch is a delightful sipping companion, it also lends itself beautifully to classic cocktails like the Rob Roy, where its nuanced sweetness and mild smokiness enhance the blend of vermouth and bitters. Whether enjoyed neat, with a splash, on the rocks, or in a carefully crafted cocktail, Bunnahabhain 12 Year offers an accessible yet richly rewarding exploration of Islay's less peated spectrum.

    Always smooth, never disappoints.

Fish and chips from the pub down the street, this was just right for sipping after. Lighter on the smoke than I expected, which worked with all that fried stuff. Wouldn't mind a touch more peat but still solid.
