It is a pink sparkling wine from Italy made in the Prosecco style, using the Glera grape with a small share of red grape for colour. It is usually light, fruity and served well chilled.
Rosé Prosecco is pink because red grapes are blended in, while regular Prosecco is pale and made from Glera alone. Rosé versions often show a little red berry fruit alongside the citrus and pear notes.
Neither is always sweeter, because sweetness depends on the style on the label. Brut is the driest, extra dry is slightly sweeter, and still rosé wines range from bone dry to sweet.
