Dewar's whisky in Westford: bottles and how to choose

· Updated 22 Oct 2026

Dewar's is a blended Scotch whisky, and CBC Liquors in Westford carries it from the White Label through to the 27 Year Double. This guide explains what separates the bottles, what the age numbers mean, and how to pick one for sipping, mixing or giving.

What is Dewar's whisky?

Dewar's is a blended Scotch whisky, made by combining malt whisky and grain whisky from different distilleries into one consistent house style. The brand dates back to John Dewar in Perth, Scotland, and it is now one of the best-known names in blended Scotch.

Blending is a skill in its own right. A single malt comes from one distillery. A blend draws on many, and the blender's job is to make the bottle taste the same year after year. That is why a blend is often described as smooth and rounded rather than sharp or smoky.

At CBC Liquors on Littleton Rd, Dewar's has its own Dewar's brand page, where you can see the bottles we carry and what is in stock today. If you are new to the brand, that page is the quickest place to start.

Which Dewar's bottles does CBC Liquors carry?

The range runs from the entry bottle to some very old expressions. The ones we carry are Dewars White Label, Dewars 12 Year Ancestor, Dewars 15 Year The Monarch, Dewars 18 Year Vintage, Dewars 19 Year Champions and Dewars 27 Year Double.

That is a clear ladder. White Label is the standard blend with no age number. The 12, 15, 18, 19 and 27 Year bottles carry age statements, so the number tells you something specific about what is in the glass.

Stock moves, so the brand page is the best check of what is on the shelf right now. If you want a particular bottle held or located, call the shop and ask.

What does the age number on a Dewar's bottle mean?

On Scotch whisky, an age statement is the age of the youngest whisky in the blend. A 12 Year bottle can contain older whiskies, but nothing in it is younger than twelve years. The number is a floor, not an average.

Age is time spent in oak casks. Longer maturation generally brings softer edges and more of the flavors that come from wood, such as vanilla, dried fruit, spice and toast. It does not automatically mean better. It means different, and what you prefer is a matter of taste.

A bottle without an age statement, like White Label, is still Scotch whisky and still aged at least three years, as Scottish law requires. It is simply a blend that does not state the youngest component.

How do the younger and older Dewar's bottles differ?

White Label is the one built for versatility. It works neat, over ice, or in a mixed drink, and it is the natural choice if you are buying a bottle to have around the house for different uses.

The 12 Year is the step up for sipping. More time in cask usually shows up as a rounder, softer drink that is easier to appreciate on its own.

The 15, 18 and 19 Year bottles sit higher in the range, and the 27 Year Double is the oldest we carry. Those are the bottles to buy when the whisky itself is the point: a quiet evening, a gift, or a marked occasion. Older whiskies often reward a slow pour and a little patience.

How should you drink Dewar's?

There is no wrong way, but a few approaches are common. Neat in a small glass lets you taste the whisky as it is. A few drops of water can open it up and soften the alcohol, so try it before and after.

Over ice is a more relaxed way to drink the White Label and the younger age-stated bottles. Ice chills and dilutes as it melts, which makes the drink gentler.

For a longer drink, blended Scotch is traditionally served as a highball with soda water, or with ginger ale. We stock mixers if you want to pick up a bottle of soda or ginger beer alongside. Save the oldest bottles for sipping, since mixing tends to hide what makes them special.

As with any spirit, pour at a pace you are comfortable with and enjoy it slowly.

How does Dewar's compare with other Scotch and whiskey?

Dewar's is a blend, so it sits in a different place from a single malt. Single malts show the character of one distillery, often with more pronounced peat or sherry. Blends aim for balance across the whole bottle.

If you want to explore beyond Dewar's, our Scotch section is the place to look, and the wider whiskey category covers bourbon, rye and Irish styles too. Scotch is spelled whisky, without the e, while American and Irish bottles usually use whiskey.

A useful way to decide is to start with a blend you like, then work out whether you want something lighter, richer or smokier next. Ask at the shop and we can point you along the shelf.

We carry Dewars White Label, 12 Year Ancestor, 15 Year The Monarch, 18 Year Vintage, 19 Year Champions and 27 Year Double. The Dewar's brand page shows what is in stock.

What does 12 Year mean on a Dewar's bottle?

It means the youngest whisky in the blend has spent at least twelve years maturing in oak. The bottle may also contain older whiskies.

Yes, you can walk in, use pickup, or ask about delivery and shipping. Hours for each are listed on the site, and the delivery areas page shows the towns we serve.
