Casamigos reposado tequila: taste, uses and where to buy

· Updated 22 Oct 2026

Casamigos reposado is a tequila rested in oak for about seven months, which gives it a smooth, lightly sweet taste with vanilla and caramel notes over clean agave. It sits between the crisp blanco and the deeper añejo, and CBC Liquors in Westford carries it for pickup, delivery and shipping.

What is Casamigos reposado tequila?

Casamigos is a tequila brand started by George Clooney, Rande Gerber and Mike Meldman, and the Casamigos Reposado Tequila is its rested expression. Reposado is Spanish for "rested". Under Mexican rules, a tequila must spend at least two months and less than a year in oak to use the name.

Casamigos rests its reposado for about seven months in American white oak barrels. That is long enough to soften the sharper edges of an unaged tequila and add a pale golden colour, but short enough that the agave is still the main flavour in the glass.

It is made from blue Weber agave, the only plant tequila can legally be made from, and bottled at 40 percent alcohol by volume, the same strength as most tequila on the shelf.

What does Casamigos reposado taste like?

The first thing most people notice is how gentle it is. There is cooked agave and a little citrus at the front, then vanilla, caramel and a trace of oak spice in the middle. The finish is short and clean, without much burn.

That softness is the reason it works for people who think they do not like tequila. The oak rounds off the peppery bite that a young tequila can have, and the sweetness that comes from the barrel reads as dessert-like rather than sugary.

If you want to taste it properly, pour a small measure into a glass with a narrow rim, let it sit for a minute, and nose it before you sip. You will find more in it at room temperature than straight from the freezer.

How is reposado different from blanco and añejo?

The three styles are the same spirit at different points in its life. Blanco is unaged or aged only briefly, so it tastes of raw agave, pepper and citrus. Reposado is rested for months and gains a little oak. Añejo is aged one to three years and tastes closer to a light whiskey, with deeper caramel, dried fruit and toasted wood.

Because Casamigos makes all three, you can compare them side by side. The Casamigos Blanco Tequila is the one for bright, lime-forward drinks. The Casamigos Anejo is the one to sip slowly after dinner. The reposado is the middle path, and it is the one that does both jobs reasonably well.

If you want to look beyond one brand, the reposado tequila shelf shows what else we carry in the style, and the wider tequila section covers every age.

How should you drink Casamigos reposado?

Neat or over a single large ice cube is the simplest way, and it shows off the barrel notes. A splash of cold water opens it up if you find it a little warming.

It also makes a good long drink. Reposado with fresh grapefruit soda and a squeeze of lime is a paloma with more depth than the blanco version. Add club soda from our mixers shelf for a tall, light highball with lime.

For something stirred, treat it like a light whiskey. A reposado old fashioned with a barspoon of agave syrup and a dash of bitters is a good way to use the vanilla and caramel in the oak. Whatever you pour, keep measures sensible and drink water alongside.

Is reposado the right tequila for a margarita?

Yes, and many people prefer it. A blanco margarita is sharp and bright. A reposado margarita is rounder, with a faint warmth underneath the lime, and it stands up better to a salted rim or a little orange liqueur.

A simple home version is two parts reposado, one part fresh lime juice and a half part agave syrup, shaken hard with ice and strained over fresh ice. Fresh lime matters more than anything else in the recipe.

If you would rather not mix, Casamigos also makes ready-to-pour margaritas. The Casamigos Classic Lime Margarita, the Casamigos Spicy Margarita and the Casamigos Strawberry Margarita are all carried at CBC Liquors. They are convenient for a party where you do not want to be behind the bar all night.

How do you store an open bottle?

Keep it upright, with the cap tight, in a cool cupboard away from windows and the stove. Light and heat dull the oak flavours over time.

Tequila does not spoil the way wine does, so an open bottle will stay pleasant for many months. If it is more than half empty and sitting a long time, the flavour will slowly flatten as more air gets in, so it is worth enjoying it rather than letting it sit for years.

There is no need to refrigerate it. If you like it cold, put a glass in the freezer or use a large ice cube rather than chilling the whole bottle.
