Blanco tequila is unaged tequila, bottled right after distilling or after a short rest, made from blue Weber agave. It is the clearest, most agave-forward style, and you can browse the blanco tequila we stock at CBC Liquors, 142 Littleton Rd in Westford.
What is blanco tequila?
Blanco, also called silver or plata, is the youngest style of tequila. It is made from blue Weber agave that is cooked, crushed, fermented and distilled. Unlike reposado or añejo, it is not aged for months or years in oak. Some producers bottle it straight away, others rest it briefly in stainless steel.
Because there is no barrel, what you taste is the agave and the way the distiller worked it. Expect citrus peel, black pepper, a bit of herbal green note and a clean, slightly sweet finish. Good blancos can range from soft and round to sharp and peppery.
If a label says 100% agave, the spirit comes only from agave sugars. Bottles without that statement are called mixto and can include other sugars. Check the front or back label when you compare.
How is blanco different from reposado and añejo?
Age is the whole difference. Reposado is rested in oak for a few months up to a year, añejo for one to three years, and extra añejo for longer. Wood adds vanilla, caramel and a golden color.
Blanco skips that, so it tastes brighter and more vegetal. If you want to compare styles side by side, we have reposado, añejo and extra añejo pages alongside it, plus cristalino, which is aged tequila filtered back to clear.
A simple rule: reach for blanco when you want the tequila to taste like tequila in a cocktail, and for aged styles when you want to sip slowly.

How do you drink blanco tequila?
Blanco works two ways. In cocktails, it is the standard for margaritas, palomas and tequila sodas, because its bright agave flavor cuts through lime and grapefruit. Neat, it is best in a small glass at room temperature, where you can notice the pepper and citrus.
Try it first on its own, a small pour, before you decide how to mix it. A clean blanco also pairs well with ceviche, tacos, grilled shrimp and fresh salsa.
For mixing, we stock mixers in the shop, so you can pick up citrus and sodas in the same trip. Please drink responsibly.
What should you look for on a blanco label?
Start with 100% agave, which tells you the base is agave only. Then look at the producer name and the stated region if it is given. Some labels also note how the agave was cooked or whether the spirit rested.
Proof matters a little. Most blancos sit around 40% alcohol by volume, though some are bottled stronger, and higher proof tends to feel peppery and more intense.
Do not judge by the bottle shape. A plain bottle can hold excellent tequila. If you are unsure, ask us what each one tastes like and we will point you to a style that fits how you plan to use it.
Can you hunt for rare tequila bottles here?
If you are looking for something unusual, start by browsing the blanco page and the wider tequila and mezcal sections, since mezcal is the related agave spirit and often has small-batch bottles. Our shop carries 4,559 products from 1,880 brands, so the shelf is deeper than a quick glance suggests.
We also have an allocated items page for bottles that come in limited amounts. For something you cannot find on the shelf, ask us in the store or through the kegs and special order request page.
We cannot promise any particular bottle will arrive, but asking costs nothing.
