Belleflower Twoey

TWOEY is a New England IPA from Belleflower, and the style tells you most of what to expect in the glass. New England IPAs are brewed for aroma and texture rather than bite: heavy late-kettle and dry-hop additions of citrusy, tropical hop varieties, a soft and full-bodied mouthfeel, and very low perceived bitterness. The appearance is usually hazy and opaque, from golden to pale orange. The brewer's exact hop bill, ABV and IBU aren't listed here, so treat those as open questions. Styles like this typically land in the 6 to 7.5 percent ABV range with restrained bitterness. On the palate, expect juicy flavors of grapefruit, orange, mango or pineapple, sometimes with a stone-fruit or lightly resinous edge, over a gentle bready or oat-like malt base. The finish is generally soft and short on bitterness, which is why these beers can feel almost like fruit juice with a hop snap. Serve it cold but not ice-cold, around 6 to 8 °C (43 to 46 °F). Straight from a very cold fridge, the aromatics stay muted, and a few minutes on the counter lets the fruit come forward. A tulip, a wide-mouthed IPA glass or a shaker pint all work, but a tulip or stemmed IPA glass is the better choice because the curved bowl concentrates the hop aroma. Pour with some force into the glass to build a modest head, and leave the last bit of yeast and haze in the can if you prefer a cleaner look. For food, the juicy, low-bitterness profile suits dishes with heat, fat or acidity. Think fish tacos with lime, spicy Thai or Indian curries, chicken wings, fried chicken, burgers with sharp cheddar, and carrot cake or other lightly sweet, spiced desserts. The soft bitterness won't compete with delicate fish or fresh salads either, which gives it more range at the table than a traditional West Coast IPA.
