Founders Backwoods Bastard

Backwoods Bastard by Founders is a compelling expression of barrel-aged craftsmanship in the form of a Scotch Ale. Hailing from Michigan, this specialty beer showcases an impressive depth of flavor courtesy of its time spent maturing in bourbon barrels. The aromatic allure of bourbon and oak intertwine seamlessly with the beer’s malty backbone, creating a tapestry of taste that is both bold and intriguing. With an ABV of 11.0%, it delivers a full-bodied experience that invites exploration beyond the ordinary. Expect a delightful interplay of rich malt sweetness and the warming essence of bourbon, underscored by the subtle bitterness of 50 IBUs. The oak imparts a sophisticated complexity, enhancing the ale's already robust character. This is a beer that rewards the patient sipper, revealing layers of caramel, vanilla, and a hint of smokiness with each taste. It's a testament to Founders' ability to transform traditional styles through innovative aging techniques. For optimal enjoyment, serve Backwoods Bastard at a temperature slightly cooler than room temperature, around 50-55°F, to fully unlock its aromatic and flavor potential. A tulip glass is ideal for this ale, as its shape concentrates the scents and allows for an appreciation of the beer’s rich color and head. This beer pairs beautifully with hearty dishes such as roasted meats, smoked cheeses, and rich stews, where its robust profile can complement and elevate the dining experience. Whether you're winding down after a meal or celebrating a special moment, Backwoods Bastard offers a distinctive and memorable taste journey.
